...RELAX WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS.........CYCLE THE PEACEFUL LANES OF WEST NORFOLK...

EIGHTEEN MILESRIDE TENN.Pickenham  S.Pickenham
Hilborough  Cockley Cley
RIDE STARTS FROM: SWAFFHAM - THEATRE STREET - FREE CAR PARK.

Turn RIGHT out of the car park and at the end of Theatre Street turn LEFT and then LEFT again at the main road. Go carefully along for about 100 yards, where you will see a turning on the RIGHT. Turn down this road, past the little school and at the bottom of the hill at the 'T' junction, turn RIGHT.

Go past a few industrial units and the Rugby Club, down the hill and out of the town. The road climbs again, then levels out to pass the huge communications tower. Soon after this take the turning on the RIGHT, which curves down into NORTH PICKENHAM village.

Follow the road through the village until you come to the Stores on the left, where you will see the little Blue Lion pub across the road, sitting on the corner of a lane.

Turn RIGHT here and continue along to where the road narrows into a lane and soon after comes to a 'T' junction. Turn RIGHT and follow this pretty lane until you arrive at the next crossroads. Turn RIGHT here, go over the the River Wissey and where the road swings round to the right by the gates of Pickenham Hall, take the turn off to the LEFT. Passing the little church of All Saints, continue up the slope to the crossroads and turn LEFT. This road is quite wide, but very pleasant and peaceful, At the next crossroads go STRAIGHT ACROSS and continue to the next junction , which is the A1065.

Turn LEFT here, taking great care on this short section, as it can be rather busy, and follow the road round the bends, past the 'Swan' P.H and on to a straight piece of road. About 100yds. along here there is a small lane across on the right. Turn RIGHT here and follow this pretty lane for about two and a half miles where you come to a crossroads. Go STRAIGHT ACROSS here and you will soon be zooming down a steep hill, at the bottom of which you cross the little River Gadder. Immediately after this, take the LEFT fork, which brings you out by the little green, opposite the 'Twenty Churchwardens' at COCKLEY CLEY. Turn RIGHT here and climb round the bend past the pub and then after a few yards, take the lane on the LEFT.

This delightful lane climbs gently through old Scots pines before descending onto open fields, turning sharp right and then up to a 'T' junction. Turn RIGHT here through smallholdings and woodland to Drymere, then it is only a 2 mile ride to the next junction at the gates of the Recreation ground at Swaffham. Turn LEFT here (ignoring the sign for 'Town centre') and follow the road until you come to the 'No Entry' sign. Turn RIGHT here and return to the car park.
